The name Auchentoshan “Three Wood” mirrors the number of times the whisky has been distilled. The name Three Wood is due to the maturation in 3 different wooden barrels. This whisky matures for about 10 years in ex-Bourbon casks, then in Oloroso Sherry casks for an estimated 2 years before it is finally put into a PX-Sherry cask for another 6 months to add a good punch of sweetness. The Auchentoshan Three Wood whiskey won the Silver Mental in 2018 at the International Spirits Challenge and Chairman’s Trophy in 2012 at the Ultimate Cocktail challenge for the best Scotch Whisky
